Hale Middle School

The client for this job required a new middle school to be built within the senior school grounds adjacent a heritage listed assembly hall.  From the start emphasis had to be on quality and timeous completion, as pupils had been booked in to start their school term in January 2010.

The building consisted of 16 classrooms, a staffroom, art gallery, foyer area and administrative offices for the headmaster and other administrative staff.  Substantial landscaping was also carried out around the project.

Construction consisted of concrete and brickwork externally and a post tensioned floor slab for the first floor.  Acoustic insulation throughout was important due to teaching requirements. This was achieved using triple layered plasterboard stud walls and ministrip acoustic ceilings.  Aluca-bond panels and full height windows formed the Southern Façade.

Although construction was during school time, minimum disruption to the client was caused, including the writing of year 12 TEE exams, which occurred adjacent to the construction site.

The project was completed within the allocated time frame despite all obstacles faced and the end result was most importantly a totally satisfied client.
